Mandate
The Director of Strategy and Finance is a senior executive leader responsible for ensuring the long-term financial stability, operational effectiveness, and strategic growth of the organization.
Working closely with the CEO and executive leadership team, the Director will translate organizational strategy into sustainable operational and financial plans. This role oversees financial stewardship, operational systems, performance reporting, and organizational planning to ensure organizational success in Edmonton. The Director will champion data-driven decision making and lead the development of financial and operational insights through Microsoft Business Central and Power BI, ensuring leadership and the Board have clear visibility into organizational performance. This role is ideal for a leader who combines strategic thinking, financial expertise, and operational leadership to strengthen both organizational impact and sustainability.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with the CEO and Board in shaping the organization’s long-term strategic direction, and lead the execution of the strategic plan
- Translate strategic priorities into operational and financial plans.
- Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and revenue diversification.
- Provide strategic advice to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Financial Sustainability
- Oversee the organization’s financial strategy and financial management.
- Ensure strong financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial oversight.
- In collaboration with the CEO, Create financial sustainability strategies including revenue growth, cost management, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting to the executive team and Board.
Operational Leadership
- Oversee operational functions to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
- Establish financial performance metrics and operational accountability across departments.
- Lead process improvements and systems optimization
Data, Systems & Performance Insights
- The use of data and analytics to support strategic decision making.
- Create financial and operational reporting through Business Central and Power BI.
- Develop dashboards and performance indicators to track organizational outcomes.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure strong internal controls, financial governance, and risk management practices.
- Support Board governance through clear reporting and financial transparency.
- Ensure compliance with funding agreements, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead and mentor employee’s responsible for finance and administration.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Build leadership capacity within the division.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have the following:
Education:
- CPA or MBA and senior financial/strategic leadership experience preferred.
Experience:
- 10–15+ years progressive leadership experience.
- 5+ years Experience in financial leadership, strategy, or operations.
- Experience working in an organization with multiple business lines an asset.
- Experience using Microsoft Business Central and Power BI.
