The Opportunity

Location: | Remote position based in Alberta’s Capital Region |
Mandate
This pivotal leadership role will drive transformative growth and champion Edmonton as a vibrant hub for tourism and hospitality. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will set and execute a bold vision while ensuring strategic direction aligns with EDMH’s mission, values, and goals. The role encompasses overseeing day-to-day operations, financial management, and human resources, while building meaningful relationships with members, stakeholders, and government officials.
The successful candidate will advance partner programs, marketing initiatives, government relations and member engagement. With sharp financial acumen, industry insight, and a deep understanding of market conditions and trends, they will drive prosperity and champion the needs of Edmonton’s member hotels. Through strategic leadership and a passion for collaboration, the Executive Director will deliver impactful results, foster long-term prosperity, and solidify Edmonton’s reputation as a must-visit destination.
Key Accountabilities
Leadership & Advocacy
- Collaborate with the Board to shape EDMH’s strategic vision and priorities.
- Serve as the organization’s chief spokesperson, building EDMH’s profile and credibility.
- Cultivate relationships with government officials, industry leaders, and key stakeholders.
Member Engagement
- Develop strategies to grow membership and deliver exceptional value to members.
- Lead dynamic marketing and engagement initiatives that resonate with stakeholders.
- Host annual events, surveys, and AGMs to maintain transparent communication.
Operational Management
- Ensure seamless day-to-day operations aligned with organizational goals.
- Implement policies, manage resources, and oversee compliance.
- Leverage innovative tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and impact.
Government Relations
- Advocate for policies that benefit member hotels and the tourism sector.
- Monitor legislative developments and prepare impactful briefings for the Board and members.
- Build collaborative relationships with government officials and industry partners.
Financial Leadership
- Develop and manage the organization’s budget with transparency and accountability.
- Monitor cash flow, oversee audits, and provide financial insights to the Board.
- Align investments with strategic goals for sustainable growth.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of dedicated professionals.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and high performance.
- Ensure compliance with HR best practices and legislation.
Risk Management
- Proactively identify and address risks to the organization’s people, finances, and reputation.
- Implement robust strategies to protect EDMH’s assets and ensure resilience.

Champion policies that deliver significant, measurable benefits to member hotels, positioning the organization as a leading voice in industry advocacy. - Drive Operational and Financial Excellence
Ensure sound financial stewardship and operational effectiveness, optimizing resources, enhancing organizational agility, and achieving measurable results.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a results-driven leader with proven success in strategic planning, government relations, and organizational development. They will excel in building connections, managing resources, and driving innovative solutions. In addition, they will possess the following:
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience:
- 5+ years in government relations, public affairs, or tourism leadership.
- Established relationships with key Alberta and/or City of Edmonton elected officials and staff are preferred.
- Background in hospitality, tourism, or non-profit organizations is an asset.
Competencies and Attributes:
- Expertise in non-profit governance and Board relations.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong financial management and strategic planning capabilities.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage stakeholders, and foster collaboration.
